Our Philosophy
At Selva Soul Retreats, we begin with a simple truth: the body is intelligent. Healing does not happen through force or intensity. It happens when the nervous system feels safe enough to soften.
Much of what we call burnout, pain, anxiety, or overwhelm is not weakness—it is physiology. When the body has adapted to prolonged stress, it learns to stay alert. Over time, survival mode becomes the baseline. Rest can feel unfamiliar. Slowness can feel uncomfortable. Even stillness can feel unsafe.
We do not override that pattern. We work with it.
Each retreat is intentionally designed to create conditions of safety—through intelligent movement, thoughtful pacing, sensory awareness, and immersion in biodiverse natural environments. As the nervous system begins to downshift, the body remembers how to regulate, repair, and integrate. Resilience emerges not through effort, but through alignment.
Our work lives at the meeting point of science and mysticism. It is informed by functional anatomy, biomechanics, and nervous system research, while also honoring the subtler dimensions of experience—ritual, sound, intuition, silence, and the quiet intelligence of the natural world.

Meet the Founders
Co-founded by Ally Solis, a certified yoga teacher and retreat facilitator, Selva Soul offers immersive retreats rooted in embodied practices, nervous system regulation, intentional movement, and authentic community. With an MBA in International Business and over 15 years in global corporate supply chain and logistics, Ally understands firsthand the realities of burnout and chronic stress that quietly shape how we feel and function.
Having lived in Nicaragua and now calling Costa Rica home, she deeply values safe, supportive community. After completing her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Costa Rica—a life-changing experience—Ally felt called to create healing spaces grounded in both movement and stillness.
Through music-infused movement, meditation, breathwork, restorative yoga, and yin, she supports the release of stored tension and stagnant energy, helping calm the nervous system and create space for clarity and connection. Ally invites participants to explore their edges gently—through awareness and compassion rather than force—cultivating resilience, self-trust, and inner steadiness.
She is also the founder of Tropical Compass Consulting and Tropical Compass Collective, guiding individuals and families relocating to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama with both logistical support and a focus on building meaningful community and belonging abroad.

Where Joanna brings the structural intelligence of anatomy, pathology, and nervous system science, Ally brings relational depth, intuitive leadership, and grounded presence. Joanna’s foundation in evidence-based movement and parasympathetic regulation ensures that every practice is safe, intentional, and physiologically supportive. Ally’s gift lies in cultivating warmth, trust, and authentic connection—creating spaces where people feel truly seen, welcomed, and able to soften.
Together, they design retreats that are both meticulously curated and organically alive—where thoughtful structure meets spacious flow, and science harmonizes with spirit.
Every detail—from movement sequencing to sound, stillness, nourishment, and adventure—is intentionally woven to support safety, resilience, and genuine connection. Ally Solis & Joanna Grace
Joanna Grace, Co-Founder of Selva Soul Retreats, uniquely blends science and spirituality in her approach to wellness. Holding a Master of Science (M.S.) in Anatomy and Pathology and bringing over 20 years of experience in laboratory and regulated health fields, she carries a deep respect for precision, safety, and evidence-based practice into every retreat she leads.
Her scientific background informs her emphasis on nervous-system regulation, parasympathetic activation, and joint-conscious movement. Joanna specializes in trauma-aware, intelligently sequenced yoga and meditation practices designed to build long-term resilience rather than chase short-term intensity. She approaches the body as both biomechanical and biological—understanding how stress patterns form and how sustainable regulation can be restored.
Alongside this clinical foundation, Joanna honors the spiritual dimensions of healing. Through meditation, breathwork, sound, ritual, and immersive nature experiences, she creates spaces where participants can reconnect not only with their physical bodies, but with their inner wisdom.
By weaving together evidence-based nervous system education with contemplative and intuitive practices, Joanna helps individuals understand the mechanics of stress while embracing the transformative power of feeling safe, supported, and deeply attuned.
